Young Artists’ Academy Classes in the Arts for Children

Saturdays are for the Arts!

Free Art Classes Saturday Mornings During the School Year

In a world where the arts are being abandoned in school curriculums, The Young Artists’ Academy (YAA) provides weekly classes in the arts for children from underserved communities in Denham Springs. Our qualified instructors teach visual arts, performing arts, and culinary arts all free of charge.

And children in the YAA program have a number of opportunities to perform for the Greater Baton Rouge and Denham Springs communities each school year, including singing with the Denham Springs Gospel Choir at their gala!

The Young Artists’ Academy offers classes in the arts to children ages 5-18 in Denham Springs and the surrounding areas. Throughout the school year, children gather on Saturday mornings at 9am at Luke 10:27 Church or the L.M. Lockhart Community Center for free art lessons in a variety of subjects: dance, vocal training, guitar, drums, piano, pottery, and arts and crafts. And there is even a cooking class.

To see what art classes are coming up and have a child you know participate follow the YAA Facebook page. Our classes in the arts are open to everyone in the Denham Springs community. Join us!

YAA kids have a variety of opportunities to perform in public throughout the year. Whether at local Christmas events, at a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration, or the annual YAA Gala, kids sing, dance, and play musical instruments for an audience.

The Young Artists’ Academy finds qualified experts who volunteer their time to teach the arts to kids from underserved areas in Greater Baton Rouge and Denham Springs.

And one year, the children set up a booth at the Mattie Street Art Market to sell their art. They were accompanied by several kids in our after-school program, The LANDers, and together the kids set up their booth, negotiated prices, and walked around advertising their artwork to the public.
